What is a day trade?

A day trade is a form of speculation in securities which a trader buy and sells a financial instruments within the same trading day. Investors do day trading in order to avoid unmanageable risks and negative price gaps between one day's close and the next day's price at the open. e.g., you buy Apple stocks at 12 PM ECT and then sell it before market close that day (4 PM ECT).
