What is SEC & FINRA TAF fees?

The SEC and FINRA Trading Activity Fee (TAF) are regulatory fees charged on the sale of any security. These fees are automatically debited from the proceeds of any security sale. These minor fees only occur on the sale of a security and is equal to:

  • SEC fee = total price of transaction * $5.10 / 1,000,000
  • TAF = $0.000119 per share for each sale of a covered equity security with a maximum of $5.95 per trade.

Fees are rounded up to the nearest one cent. For example, If you sell 1 share of Apple for $150, the fee would be :

  • SEC fee : $0.000765 rounded up to $0.01 or equivalent to ~IDR 150
  • TAF fee : $0.000119 rounded up to $0.01 or equivalent to ~IDR 150

The total would be $0.02 or equivalent to ~IDR 300
